Calling all font developers and type designers – March 6, 2007

Linotype rolls out its fourth TypoTechnica

Bad Homburg, March 6, 2007. Linotype is pleased to announce its upcoming TypoTechnica™ conference, which will take place at the Gutenberg-Schule in Frankfurt, from April 27 to 29, 2007. TypoTechnica is renowned as the premiere platform bringing together typeface designers, font developers, and software technicians. Taking place for the fourth time, international font technology specialists, speakers and trainers will come together for the open and stimulating exchange of experience, skills, and technical know-how.

The keynote speaker will be the young and talented type designer from New York, Christian Schwartz.

The main program will revolve around several main themes such as:
  • A review of OpenType and the demands of the next font format generation.
  • Newest font development tools.
  • Software training.
  • Scripting with Python®.
  • Non-Latin typography and its technical aspects.
  • Consumer electronics and fonts.
Speakers will include specialists from Monotype Imaging, an industry leader and, as the parent company of Linotype, a special collaborator with Linotype’s own font technology specialists. Other key presentations will be given by Microsoft, Fontlab, and many others. Delegates will also benefit from special workshops, where they will be able to interact directly with developers to learn the ins and outs of font technology. All workshops, as well as a Gala Dinner event to be held in a prime Frankfurt location, are included in the conference fee. Take advantage of the early registration rates, starting from just 190 euros; sign up today!

A special event, free for all conference participants, will be held on Sunday April 29th, when Linotype will organize a special visit to the typographic archives at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University library. Visitors will examine historic samples – including the 1592 Egenolff-Berner specimen that inspired both Stempel Garamond and Sabon Next – from a unique collection of that will surely inspire more innovation.

All events will be hosted in downtown Frankfurt, Germany. Don’t miss this chance to exchange knowledge, and stay up-to-date regarding oncoming trends!
