Jörg Hemker

Jörg Hemker was born in 1973. After his studies at Fachhochschule Dortmund he received a diploma in 1999 for his five-minute animated film “Die Schriften des Herrn Hemker”. 2000 he worked at the Hesse-Designstudios in Düsseldorf. He created a complex type system for Bosch GmbH, consisting of Grotesk, Antiqua and correspondence typefaces and a logo type for Blaupunkt GmbH. From mid 2000 he worked for Claus Koch™, also in Düsseldorf. Among other projects, he developed communication solutions for Deutsche Telekom AG, Dresdner Bank AG, E-Plus GmbH and Kabel Berlin-Brandenburg. From the header of the newspaper Rheinische Post a new logo type evolved and during this time, he won three awards by Deutscher Designer Club. 2003 he was employed at DMC Hamburg and developed the On-Air Design of the ARD show “Einfach Millionär”, and of the corporate design for the radio stations of Rundfunk Berlin Brandenburg. Since 2004 he worked as a freelance art director and type designer when Corporate-Designs for Entavio GmbH, Primondo GmbH, Fresenius SE, Mainova AG and Jette Joop GmbH evolved. In 2008 his design for the federal government of Nordrhein-Westfalen won a reddot Design Award. Hemker got an invitation to the Allianz Corporate-Type Pitch, designed of a headline typeface for Harry-Brot GmbH and Commerzbank AG and a corporate type concept for Würth GmbH. Since 2008 he teaches at Fachhochschule Dortmund about type and typography.
