IF Design Award – February 26, 1999

New milestone set in worldwide product design by Linotype Library's intelligent navigation and databank system

Bad Homburg/Hannover 26.2.99.

The Linotype FontExplorer™ has been awarded one of the most prestigious design awards in the world: the IF Interaction Design Award 1999 given for outstanding product quality and promotion of good design. Prizes will be awarded on the 18th March at the start of CeBIT 99 in the exhibition hall, and will include a further 30 categories for products from 12 other countries.
The Linotype FontExplorer™ – which has been introduced as the world’s first – is a new concept of browser from Linotype GmbH, Bad Homburg, that allows Macintosh and Windows-PC users to browse thousands of typefaces on a CD-ROM in a clearly illustrated format. It is the first time type users have had the capability to navigate a font library using an intelligent utility that is able to find and illustrate possible uses for each face. The Linotype FontExplorer™ will be able to distribute over half a million different typeset samples to design studios, agencies and graphic reproduction houses worldwide.
Linotype FontExplorer™ is a product development from Linotype Library that offers a complete, program-based compilation of the typeface databank. The on-screen and interface design has been produced by Polygon GmbH, Heusenstamm. Linotype Library can be found at CeBIT 99 in Hall 9, Stand D31.
