Nikolai Nikolajevitsch Kudryashev was born in Moscow in 1909 and studied at the Higher Industrial Art School from 1926 to 1928. He was one of the original designers of the font Kudryashevskaya Encyclopedicheskaya on which the modern digital font Petersburg is based. He worked on this font and over 200 others while employed at Polygraphmash.
