Using System Fonts

Using System Fonts on Your MySpace Page

Although there are thousands of fonts available to choose from, it’s recommended that you choose to customize your page using “system” fonts – or fonts that come preloaded on most popular operating systems. Anybody viewing your MySpace® page, including yourself, will only be able to see your font changes if they have the fonts you specify already loaded on their computers. These fonts are also referred to as “web-safe” fonts because most users will have access to them.

A few of the recommended web-safe fonts are:

Arial®
Gill Sans®
Times New Roman®
Georgia
Impact
Verdana
Comic Sans

Note: Changing your MySpace fonts requires you to work with simple HTML page code, though a working knowledge of HTML is not necessary.

Customizing your Profile page fonts
1) If you would like to edit your profile using a custom font, click the “Edit Profile” link in the MySpace interface.

2) The contents (text) of each section in the “About Me” and “Interests” areas that you want to be customized need to be framed by "font face" opening and closing HTML tags. Select the web-safe font you would like to use, and place its name in an "open" tag before the text in any section you wish to customize. If you’ve chosen the font Comic Sans, the tag would appear this way:

3) Place the “close” tag after the text. The closing tag does not specify the font name and will always look the same:

Please note that while HTML tags are not case sensitive, they must be written in the proper order, and include the proper spacing and necessary punctuation, such as quotation marks. Before saving the changes to your profile page, verify that the contents of each section that you wish to customize are wrapped with font face tags:

3) Select the web-safe font you would like to use, and place its name in an “open” tag before the text you’ll be including in your comment. If you’ve chosen the font Impact, the tag would appear this way:

4) Place the “close” tag after the text. The closing tag does not specify the font name and will always look the same:

5) While still in HTML mode, your comment should appear this way:

6) Click the “Preview” button to view your comment in the font you’ve chosen. If you are satisfied with the result, click the “Submit” button.

The Comment box on your MySpace page will appear this way:

Please note that while HTML tags are not case sensitive, they must be written in the proper order, and include the proper spacing and necessary punctuation, such as quotation marks.

Troubleshooting
If you cannot view your profile or comment in the font you’ve chosen:

• The font may not be resident on your computer (unlikely)
• You’ve spelled the font name wrong (more likely)
• Your HTML code is not formatted correctly (most likely)

If someone else cannot view your profile or comment in the font you’ve chosen on their computer:

• They do not have the specified font resident on their computer
