Font Designer – Josef Tyfa

Josef Tyfa – born 5. 12. 1913 in Náchod-Beloves, Austria-Hungary (tody Czech Republic), died 19. 1. 2007 – typographer, graphic artist, type designer. Studied graphics at the Rotter School in Prague. Then art director for the Centrotex export company. Tyfa has designed logos, posters, postage stamps, book covers and typefaces and won numerous awards, including in 1964 a prize at the 1st Biennale for Graphic-Design in Brno and in 1972 and 1975 for the best book of the year.

Fonts: Kollektiv-Antiqua (1958), Tyfa-Antiqua (1959) and Academia (1968), ITC Tyfa™ (Frantisek Storm/Josef Tyfa, 1998).

Publications include: "Paragraphs on printing", New York 1943. Joseph Blumenthal "Bruce Rogers, a life in letters", Austin 1989.
