typo[media] 2000: High-quality, professional information all about typography, design and the Internet – July 12, 1999

Mainz. An innovative, professional event which has gained international recognition in recent years is to be held in Mainz in the Gutenberg celebration year: the typo[media] congress on the important subject of “typestyles in the media”. The objective of the event is to define the current status of visual communication in the age of digital media and the Internet.
The honorary host of typo[media] 2000 is Dr. Michael Naumann, Federal Government Commissioner for Cultural Affairs and the Media.

typo[media] is dedicated to the latest developments in media, design and communication. The central theme for the year 2000 is ‘Links to Minds’. Typestyles, typography, media work and media design are viewed in historical context, and the latest developments in new media are related to traditional values in typographical culture. High-calibre presenters will discuss the fields of art, design, typography, calligraphy, advertising, photography, TV, print and Internet/Web design and express their views on these areas. The following are among those who have already agreed to participate: April Greiman, Steven Heller, Brian Willson (all from the USA), Irma Boom (NL), Prof. Nikolaus Troxler, Prof. Wolfgang Weingart (both from CH), Prof.Ernst Pöppel, Prof.Claudius Lazzeroni, Prof.Gottfried Pott and Thomas Rempen (all from Germany). Karin Schmidt-Friderichs and Prof. Friedich Friedl will be the moderators.

Roughly 1,500 professionals from all over the world are expected in Mainz. The congress languages are English and German with simultaneous interpreting. The congress events will be accompanied by a variety of activities and programmes: exhibitions, workshops, an Internet café and multimedia shows will give visitors maximum benefit. The organiser of typo[media] is the font house Linotype Library, subsidiary of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG.
