Syntax™ Font Family Expanded
"It was not the ambition to make a print font which motivated him, rather the view that he formed during his intensive work with typefaces, that the available sans serif fonts in the formal sense were not enough", said the Swiss typographer Max Caflisch about his countryman Hans Eduard Meier, who designed Syntax, a font which marked an era. Appearing in 1972, Syntax™ was the only one of the numerous sans serif linear typefaces which was consciously categorized as an antiqua. Together with Univers from Adrian Frutiger or Helvetica from Max Miedinger, Syntax™ is one of the few universal fonts, and now almost thirty years later, Hans Eduard Meier has expanded it.

Linotype Syntax™ includes 30 weights, from light, roman and medium to bold, heavy and black. Every weight has its own italic and small caps designed to match. The typeface shows its historic roots and is at the same time suitable for the most modern applications. Users can establish a comprehensive communications system with the newly expanded Linotype Syntax,™ including logos, headlines, text or web design. Soon to follow are the variants Linotype Syntax™ Letter for correspondence and Linotype Syntax Lapidar, an historical typeface based on the chiseled forms of the 2nd century.

Linotype Syntax™ with 30 weights is available exclusively through Linotype Library, on CD-ROM for Macintosh or Windows. The license for 5 machines is available for EUR 711,72/DM 1392,00 including 16% value added tax, plus shipping and handling.
