Huda Smitshuijzen AbiFarès, was born in Beirut in 1965. She holds degrees in graphic design from Yale University School of Art and Rhode Island School of Design. She is specialized in bilingual typographic research and design. She has worked as a graphic designer for a number of years, in the US, Amsterdam, France and Beirut. She is author of Arabic Typography, a comprehensive sourcebook (Saqi Books. London 2001). She has published a number of articles in international design/art magazines and lectures on the topic at various typography conferences. She has taught typography and graphic design at the American University of Beirut. She is currently Chair of the Visual Communication Department at the American University in Dubai, and founder of Stichting Khatt, Center for Arabic Typography (Amsterdam. 2004).
