A large x-height, open counters, full apertures, slightly condensed proportions, and variety of weights make Michael Abbink’s FF Kievit™ an ideal design for everything from commanding headlines to long-form text, and wayfinding to complex branding projects. It excels in both large and small sizes and is equally at home in print and digital environments. When combined with the other members of the Kievit super family (FF Kievit Slab and FF Kievit Serif) it becomes a typographic tour de force.
FF Kievit’s foundation is firmly grounded in humanistic character shapes and proportions making for inviting copy that is easy on the eyes. True italic designs separate FF Kievit from more traditional sans serif typefaces and underwrites its connection to historical predecessors.
Abbink began working on the first drafts of what was to become FF Kievit while he was still in design school. After graduation, the design was completed as part of a corporate project at Studio Method Inc. in San Francisco. FontShop published the commercial fonts it in 2001. Since its release, FF Kievit has been recognized as an award-winning design by ISTD and ATypI.
FF Kievit is available in nine finely tuned weights, all with extensive language support including most Central European and many Eastern European languages. In addition to the Regular, a Book weight is ideally suited to creating inviting and easy to read text copy. All weights have complementary italics. Ligatures, several suites of numbers and small caps are also available. In addition, FF Kievit benefits from.
