Morris Fuller Benton – born 30. 11. 1872 in Milwaukee, USA, died 30. 6. 1948 in Morristown, USA – engineer, type designer. Linotext a été créée par Morris Fuller Benton en 1901. Elle a été produite pour la première fois sous le nom de Wedding Text par American Type Founders à Jersey City, où ses caractères métalliques ont été gravés à la main. Cette fonte a rencontré un tel succès qu'elle a été produite par d'autres fonderies sous des noms différents : Elite Kanzlei chez D. Stempel AG, Comtesse chez C.F. Rühl, etc. Selon les normes actuelles, ses formes ornementales ne sont pas considérées comme étant très lisibles. Linotext doit donc être utilisée pour les titres et les textes courts dans une taille supérieure ou égale à 12.
