[...]Italic forms: The italic forms of Vialog are not simply the slanted forms of the roman, rather, were individually designed. A graphically balanced typeface results from the reduced weight of curve ends and lightly arched outline of the straight strokes. (See figure 1)

Vialog™, publiée par Linotype en 2002, est une famille de fontes sans empattement, larges et polyvalentes qui se compose de quatre graisses romaines et des italiques correspondants. Chacune de ces graisses contient des petites capitales et des chiffres elzéviriens. Ses créateurs, Werner Schneider et Helmut Ness, ont basé le concept de Vialog sur les formes d'Euro Type, une fonte non publiée, créée par Schneider en 1988 pour le Ministère fédéral allemand des transports. Pour Vialog, Schneider a étudié en détails la lisibilité des fontes européennes liées au transport. Il a ainsi combiné et adapté leurs meilleurs éléments afin de créer une nouvelle famille de fontes pour un système d'information. Il a modifié les caractères de Vialog et leur espacement en portant une attention particulière aux problèmes de lisibilité. Les caractères doivent en effet être lisibles de loin et lors du déplacement du véhicule. Par exemple : le i et le j majuscules et minuscules posent généralement des problèmes de lisibilité dans les fontes sans empattement. Dans Vialog, des empattements ont donc été ajoutés à ces caractères. Vialog s'avère utile dans d'autres domaines que celui des transports, notamment le graphisme et l'image de marque d'entreprise, car elle permet d'économiser de l'espace dans la composition de texte et possède un grand nombre de graisses et de styles.
