! Welcome to the Current Issue of the LinoLetter !

Introduction:

Geometry forms the foundation of art, architecture, and design. For years, typefaces that directly reference geometry have been popular; they even constitute whole genres of fonts. This month, we’d like to focus LinoLetter readers’ attention directly on this topic. We’ve created a new feature for our website for your perusal, and we have a new small family of display type that fits right into the square end of this category as well: Morris Sans™. Additionally, we have a great new Value Pack in store for May. Although the Graffiti Value Pack may not have much to do with apparent geometry, we hope that you’ll enjoy its offerings just the same. And last but not least, FontExplorer™ X is now available for Windows users.

More than just the sum of their parts – Geometric types shine in a new Font Feature

Ever since mechanical tools became part of the type design process, geometric-style typefaces have grown in popularity. Although not all fonts that we call “geometric” today were created with this classification in mind, the term serves a useful purpose. Geometric type is the perfect fit for many applications, including pieces that should feel industrial, technical, or cutting-edge. Because there are so many geometric variants to choose from, we’ve created a helpful Font Feature for our website that groups these works into simple categories.

A squared sans for Generation Y – Introducing Morris Sans

Finally, Bank Gothic with lowercase! Morris Sans™ is a revised and extended version of Bank Gothic, the ever-popular typeface created by Morris Fuller Benton in 1930. Building onto the initial squared capitals-with-a-few-unique-twists design, Dan Reynolds added an original lowercase, as well as several figure options. Small caps, which have become an iconic element over time, are also accessible in each of the family’s fonts as an OpenType feature. This clean, modern face is best suited for headlines, advertising, posters, expressive signage (especially on storefronts), and corporate identity work.
