Unpacking
For unpacking the font packages you downloaded from Linotype.com, you may either use OS X’s own unzipping program or tools like the StuffIt expander.
Make sure that you selected the "Download for OS X" option in the Linotype.com download area.
For unpacking, installing and maintaining fonts on OS X, it is most advisable to have a font management utility like Linotype FontExplorer® X installed, especially if you have to work with large numbers of fonts. Otherwise you can install the fonts manually by dragging the font files directly into one of the font folders.

Installation procedure using Linotype FontExplorer X:
- Quit all applications that are in use. Fonts are not automatically activated in applications that are open during installation.
- Open the *.zip archive or the CD product you have purchased from us and locate the fonts folder.

- Choose File -> Import fonts...
- Drag & Drop files or folders on the Sources or the font list.
- Right-click on the Linotype FontExplorer X icon in the Dock and choose "Import fonts..."

During the import, you will be warned (if activated in the preferences) if you’re about to import a font which is already imported in Linotype FontExplorer X.
- From the same path
- From another path but which is exactly the same
In both cases you have the option either to remove and import it again, or to do nothing and keep the currently loaded font.
Please note that if you import many fonts at a time, a lot of memory is used. Therefore we recommend to turn off automatic font activation, to do nothing else during the import process, and to restart Linotype FontExplorer X if any performance issues occur after the import.
- Open up your applications. The font should now appear in your applications font menu.
- Installation Is completed.

You can install fonts in five different locations on Mac OS X:
- [Home]/Library/Fonts/
This is the fonts folder in your user directory (also called home directory). The fonts that are installed here will be available to you when you are logged in using your user name. Some of the applications in your home directory put the fonts in their own fonts folders. It is advisable to install your fonts here!
- /Library/Fonts/
All fonts located in this directory are available to all users on the system, but you must authorize yourself if you would like to install additional fonts.
- /System/Library/Fonts/
All fonts that are used by the operating system are stored here. You should not install any fonts in here, even though it is possible to do so.
- /Network/Library/Fonts/
If you are connected to a NetInfo server, the network administrator may install fonts, which will show up in this network folder.
- ClassicStartup Volume/Systemfolder/Fonts
All Fonts installed in the above places will NOT be available in the Classic Environment.
Fonts can be also installed in the systemfolder of your classic (OS 9) operating system. All fonts that are installed here will be available for all users in MacOS X. Unfortunately fonts that are managed by the Adobe Type Manager will not be available in MacOS X applications.

Deinstallation:
When using a font manager (e.g. FontExplorer X, ATM Deluxe or others), you must deinstall the fonts using the options in the font manager. If you have installed the font directly via one of the font folders above, just delete the font file from the fonts folder. Take care not to delete the special fonts that are needed by the operating system.
