The repetition of simple geometric shapes forms a daily part of our environment. Throughout the 20th century – and into the 21st – typefaces whose designs have taken advantage of this have remained popular. But finding exactly the right mood can be tricky. For your convenience, we have grouped some of our favorite geometric typefaces (mostly sans serif and symbol) into four categories: circles, squares, ovals, and triangles.

Robert Hunter Middleton – born 6. 5. 1898 in Glasgow, Scotland, died 3. 8. 1985 in Chicago, USA – type designer, printer. 1908: moves to the USA. Studies painting at the Art Institute of Chicago. From 1923 onwards: type designer for the Ludlow Typograph Company. Works with Ernst F. Detterer and starts producing new weights and versions of Detterer’s Eusebius typeface in 1923. 1933–71: art director of the Ludlow Typograph Company. 1944: founds the Cherryburn Press. La police Umbra a été créée par R. Hunter Middleton pour la Ludlow Corporation en 1995. Il s'agit d'une police tridimensionnelle et singulière, dont la forme principale des caractères est définie uniquement par son ombrage. À l'origine, elle a été créée afin de doter la police de caractères Tempo d'une ombre portée de couleur différente. Il s'agit désormais d'une police de titrage distincte et originale.
