Mergenthaler Linotype, in the United States, was founded in Brooklyn, but later moved to Melville, NY, and then to Hauppauge, NY. Mergenthaler Linotype's design studio employed at varying times up to 80 designers under the direction of Chauncey H. Griffith, Jackson Burke, Mike Parker, and Matthew Carter.

Fette Fraktur est l'une des polices à lettres brisées les plus utilisées aujourd'hui. Elle crée un sentiment de nostalgie et de rusticité et se retrouve parfois dans les restaurants servant des « bons plats faits maison » et les brasseries utilisant les « les bonnes vieilles recettes ». Cette police de caractères a été créée au dix-neuvième siècle pour des utilisations publicitaires. Les minuscules ont un style gothique et leurs ornements en font des lettres brisées, alors que les majuscules sont plus typiques des polices à caractères brisés. Fette Faktur est une police mélangeant les styles, ce qui était assez habituel des polices créées au début du dix-neuvième siècle.
