Cette fonte apparut pour la première fois dans un échantillon de fontes présenté par la Fonderie typographique française au dix-neuvième siècle. Elle comporte trois coupes : les caractères, les caractères accentués et les chiffres. Madame, une fonte flamboyante destinée aux titres et aux introductions, peut être utilisée pour mettre en valeur le texte ou sous forme d'initiales. Elle s'accorde très bien avec les fontes à empattement et sans empattement. Cependant, elle doit être utilisée avec parcimonie afin d'exploiter au mieux le potentiel de ses formes ornées.
