ITC Rennie Mackintosh™ a été créée en 1996 par Phill Grimshaw et est le fruit de recherches et d'une collaboration entre l'International Typeface Corporation et la Glasgow School of Art. Les formes des lettres sont basées sur l'écriture manuscrite et sur les dessins du créateur écossais Charles Rennie Mackintosh, reconnue internationalement pour ses conceptions de bâtiments, de meubles et d'intérieurs originaux au début du vingtième siècle à Glasgow.
