The concept behind the origin of Syntax™ was to develop a typeface that merged the grace of a Renaissance roman with the structural characteristics of a grotesque. The Swiss typographer Hans Eduard Meier drew the first designs for the typeface in 1954; 15 years later Syntax™ Roman appeared from the typefoundry D.
