Installing on Mac OS9 or older

Unpacking

To install a font package you downloaded from Linotype.com, you most probably need to unarchive it before having access to the actual font files. Make sure that you selected the "Download for OS 9" option in the Linotype.com download area.

Either you use a font management tool available on older Mac OS versions or you may use different tools to do the unpacking of the ZIP archive you received, most probably the StuffIt expander.

On Mac OS 9 or below, family fonts will have only one suitcase file with all necessary information to display all fonts. You do not need to have any additional font management software installed to activate TrueType fonts on the Macintosh.

Mac OS 9.x and Classic Mode

When installing OpenType fonts on Mac OS 9.x there are some things to keep in mind. OpenType fonts only have one file either ending with *.ttf (TrueType outlines) or *.otf (PostScript outlines). There is a single file to store the font information.

When using OpenType fonts on Mac OS 9.x you must have the Adobe Typemanager (ATM) version 4.6.2 or newer installed.
Please check the Linotype support area for the latest version of the Adobe Type Manager.

Older versions of the ATM cannot handle OpenType fonts correctly.

Installation procedure Mac OS 9.x:

  1. Install the ATM, if missing, download it here.
  2. Quit all applications that are in use. Fonts are not automatically activated in applications which are open during installation.
  3. Open the *.zip archive or the CD product you have purchased from us and locate the fonts folder.
  4. Choose the OpenType font file you would like to install.
  5. Select all and drag the file to the closed system folder icon.
  6. A system message will appear. Click ’ok’.
  7. Open up your application. The fonts should now appear in your applications font menu.

Deinstallation:

When using a font manager (e.g., ATM Deluxe or Suitcase), you must deinstall the fonts using the options in the font manager. If you are installing direct via the system’s font folder, just delete the font files from the fonts folder. Take care not to delete the special fonts that are needed by the operating system!
Here you can find detailed information about the installation and administration of fonts.
Please click on the link below to download a ZIP archive of the latest instructions. Unpack the archive then open the index.htm file from the font administration folder. Viewing the index.htm file via your web browser, all of the critical details regarding this topic are available in English and in German.
