Central European Mac & PC

Linotype CE fonts
Fonts which have the ‘CE’ extension in their names provide support for different eastern European languages. Depending upon the platform and keyboard drivers (Mac or Windows) you use, the support for certain languages may vary. This is not trivial, e.g. when exchanging documents cross-platform.

The minimum supported languages for Macintosh:
Polish, Czech, Slovac, Hungarian, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian
(drivers available in Mac OS 10.3.x, others may vary)
Characters for the following languages are available in our fonts but require appropriate keyboard drivers and reencoded CE fonts to match the Apple’s layout definition:
Albanian, Croatian, Faeroese, Romanian, Serbian (Latin) and Slovene.

The minimum supported languages for Windows:
Polish, Czech, Slovac, Hungarian, Albanian, Croatian, Romanian, Slovene
Characters for the following languages are available in our fonts but require special system level support and/or special keyboard drivers:
Faeroese and Serbian (Latin).

How to use CE fonts
Before using CE fonts it is required to have the appropriate keyboard drivers installed if available. If the keyboard drivers are not installed, please add them using the keyboard control panel in Windows or Mac OS 9.x, and the ‘International’ control panel of Mac OS X.

OpenType fonts and CE
Depending on which characteristics OpenType fonts have, there is different CE language support within the fonts.
All in all OpenType ‘Pro’ fonts support 33 to 48 different languages. Minimum CE supported languages are: Croatian, Czech, Estonian, Hungarian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Romanian, Serbian (Latin), Slovak, Slovenian.
OpenType ‘Com’ fonts support 48 languages and are optimized for high quality screen display (XSF). In ‘Com’ fonts all supported CE languages are: Albanian, Bosnian, Croatian, Czech, Estonian, Faeroese, Hungarian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Moldavian (Latin), Polish, Romanian, Slovak and Slovenian.
The fonts have been produced to meet the Linotype OpenType Standard and may require special keyboard drivers for language-specific keyboard layouts.
Because of special dependencies when using CE fonts on different platforms, with different keyboard drivers and software we advise you to contact our Linotype´s Central European fonts (available CE font styles are buried within larger font families – please click on a family name in order to reach the CE styles).
