Gottfried Pott – A Look into the World of Calligraphy
The unjustly overlooked round nib merits some closer examination here. As a pen, it is wonderfully suited for monoline alphabets or for the Grotesque Alphabet and remains indispensable to this day. But for experimental work it also offers a broad range of possibilities. In holding it unconventionally, the bottom part of the nib produces a broad stroke. In order to achieve this effect, one has to “scrub” the nib across the paper, pushing it against all rules, which results in a grpahically very pleasing result in the overall image of the text of single word.
