The fact that Frutiger wants to pass his knowledge on in the form of a book could not be more fitting. As a type designer, Adrian Frutiger will always remain true to the medium of type. “I am utterly convinced that over the centuries the written word will remain the means for creating a connection between those who have something to say and those who want to hear it. I can’t imagine that this will only take place in the form of images. We may have neglected our oral traditions for passing on knowledge and images may indeed continue to play an increasingly important role. But the history of Europe has always been defined by the written word. This tradition has been growing over thousands of years and is deeply embedded in our culture. So of course the written word will continue to shape a significant part of our lifestyle.”
