Orion™ Hermann Zapf made his first scetches for Orion in 1963. Zapf's aim was to create a neutral textface which can be ideally used as a newspaper face. Its strokethickness and open letterforms also fits well for book and magazine production. The final two weights of Orion were released in 1974 for the Linofilm photocomposing machine. Die Vario ist eine stämmige, plakative Pinselschrift. Sie ist eine Kreation des bekannten Schriftentwerfers Hermann Zapf und eignet sich hervorragend für Headlines und Reklamen. Es gibt sie in Regular und Italic. Die Vario wurde erstmals im Jahr 1982 von der Dr.-Ing. Rudolf Hell GmbH für das Digiset Satzsystem hergestellt.

1990 fusionierte die Linotype AG mit der Dr.-Ing Rudolf Hell GmbH zur Linotype-Hell AG (heute Linotype GmbH). Seit diesem Zeitpunkt ist Linotype die offizielle Quelle aller Fonts, die ursprünglich im Auftrag der Hell Corporation geschaffen wurden. Linotype hat diese Schriften unter Verwendung der neuen Digitaltechnologie, einschließlich OpenType, optimiert.
