Gustav Grinbergs, Designer und Lehrer aus Lettland, entwarf die Stencil Moonlight in dem Versuch, etwas Auflockerung in die Schablonentypografie zu bringen. Gedacht als eine lebhafte, halb-formelle Schrift, ist sie durch glatte und kompakte Formen charakterisiert. Mit ihren ausgesprochen fetten, selbstsicheren Buchstaben ist sie nicht zu übersehen. Sie ist in zwei verschiedenen Schriftschnitten erhältlich: Regular und Small Caps , die sich sehr gut ergänzen.
Die Stencil Moonlight wirkt am besten in großen Schriftgraden, wo kein Zweifel daran gelassen wird, dass es sich hier um ein Experiment mit einer Schablonenschrift handelt. Grinbergs empfiehlt ihre Verwendung für Verpackungsdesigns, Werbung, Plakate und sogar für die Untertitelung von fremdsprachigen Filmen.
Die Stencil Moonlight kam auf den zweiten Platz in der Display-Kategorie des internationalen Schriftdesign-Wettbewerbs 2003, der von der Linotype GmbH gesponsert wurde.
