The Czech designer Frantisek Storm (born 1966 in Prague) created the fonts ITC Biblon® (2000), ITC Malstock™ (1996) and ITC Tyfa™ (1998, with Josef Tyfa). The idea for ITC Malstock is based on a sign painting technique that uses a flat brush and a Maalstok, a long bar with soft padding which is used as a rest for the painter's hand and a guide for vertical lines. Josef Tyfa – born 5. 12. 1913 in Náchod-Beloves, Austria-Hungary (tody Czech Republic), died 19. 1. 2007 – typographer, graphic artist, type designer. Studied graphics at the Rotter School in Prague. Then art director for the Centrotex export company. Tyfa has designed logos, posters, postage stamps, book covers and typefaces and won numerous awards, including in 1964 a prize at the 1st Biennale for Graphic-Design in Brno and in 1972 and 1975 for the best book of the year. Die ITC Tyfa ist eine Gemeinschaftsarbeit von Frantisek Storm und Josef Tyfa. Die Original-Bleisatzschrift des tschechischen Künstlers und Designers Tyfa war vom Werk des Architekten P.L. Nervi beeinflusst. ¿In der Vergangenheit lag das Schwergewicht bei der Schriftgestaltung auf dem ästhetischen Wert. Bei meinen Schriften ließ ich mich von den Formen der modernen Architektur inspirieren¿, sagt Tyfa. Storm begann die Schrift unter Tyfas Anleitung zu digitalisieren. Seiner Meinung nach zeigt das Design ¿einen Hauch von barocker Typografie¿. Obwohl gewisse Einflüsse älterer tschechischer Designer erkennbar sind, so ist die ITC Tyfa doch eine unverwechselbare Schrift mit ganz eigenem Charakter.
