Die ITC Rennie Mackintosh™ wurde 1996 von Phill Grimshaw entworfen. Sie ist das Ergebnis langer Forschungsarbeiten sowie der Kooperation zwischen der International Typeface Corporation und der Glasgow School of Art. Die Glyphen sind der Handschrift und den Zeichnungen des schottischen Designers Charles Rennie Mackintosh nachempfunden, der sich mit seinen originellen Gebäuden, Interieurs und Möbeln, die er um die Wende zum 20. Jahrhunderts in Glasgow schuf, einen internationalen Namen machte. Die Schriftfamilie umfasst zwei Schnitte, Fett und Leicht, jede mit Alternativbuchstaben, sowie eine Zierschrift mit zahlreichen Jugendstil-Ornamenten. Der fette Schnitt ist im Gewicht den Originalbuchstaben von Mackintosh sehr ähnlich; der leichte Schnitt wurde eigens entworfen, um die Lesbarkeit auch bei kleineren Schriftgraden zu gewährleisten. Diese Schriftfamilie ist reizvoll, ausgefallen und clever – eine vortreffliche Wahl für Produktverpackungen, Werbung und grafische Designs, die etwas von der Jugendstil-Atmosphäre vermitteln wollen.
