Georges Auriol (real name: Jean Georges Huyot) – born 1863 in Beauvais, France, died 1938 in Paris, France – type designer, graphic artist, painter, author.
1883: joins the editorial staff of the magazine "Chat Noir", the literary organ of the cabaret of the same name in Paris. 1900: Auriol designs several alphabets at the request of Georges Peignot, director of the type foundry Peignot & Sons. Friends with Th.-A. Steinlen and H. de Toulouse Lautrec.

Die beiden Schriften Auriol und Auriol Flowers wurden von Georges Auriol, geb. Jean Georges Huyot, zu Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts geschaffen Auriol war ein französischer Grafikkünstler, dessen Werk den Art Nouveau-Stil im Paris des auslaufenden 19. und des beginnenden 20. Jahrhunderts exemplifiziert. Im Jahr 1900 wurde Auriol von Georges Peignot gebeten, Schriften für Peignot & Sons zu gestalten. Die aus diesem Auftrag resultierende Auriol bildete die Basis für die Lettern, die Hector Guimard für die Eingangsschilder der Pariser Metrostationen verwendete. Deberny & Peignot brachten die Auriol 1979 mit einem neuen fetten Schnitt neu heraus, der von Matthew Carter entworfen wurde. Diese äußerst dekorativ wirkende Pinselschriftfamilie, die an Tiffany und Jugendstil erinnert, ist eine beliebte Wahl für Headlines.
