Noris ist der lateinische Name für Nürnberg, Hermann Zapfs Heimatstadt. Nürnberg ist eine Stadt mit einer großen Tradition in der Schreibkunst; genannt seien hier nur Johann Neudörffer (1497-1563), Wolfgang Fugger (1515-1568) und Rudolf Koch (1876-1934). Das Ziel bei der Noris war es, die Spontaneität einer schnellen Schreibschrift unter Verwendung einer Breitfeder als eine typografische Druckschrift wiederzugeben. Sie wurde erstmals 1976 für das Linofilm-System veröffentlicht.
