Die Rotis® ist eine umfassende Schriftgruppe mit Sans Serif-, Semi Sans-, Serif- und Semi Serif-Stilen ¿ insgesamt 17 Schriftschnitte einschließlich Kursiv. Die vier Familien zeichnen sich durch ähnliche Schriftschnitte, Höhen und Proportionen aus, obwohl die Serifenlose (Sans) ¿monoton" ist, die Semi Sans anschwellende Striche, die Semi Serif nur wenige Serifen und die Serif Endstriche und Striche mit meist vertikalen Achsen aufweist. 1989 von Otl Aicher für Agfa entwickelt, gilt die Rotis als ein Ausdruck des modernen europäischen Zeitgeists. Kein Wunder also, dass diese stark rationalisierte und dennoch ausgefeilte Schrift allgegenwärtig ist, von Büchern bis zu Werbeplakaten. Mit seiner Idee der Kombination von Serifenlosen mit Serifen löste Aicher eine kleinere Revolution aus. Die Traditionalisten sahen diese Schrift, die sich aus zum Teil mit markanten Serifen verzierten, zum Teil serifenlosen Formen zusammensetzt, zwar als eine Neuerung, aber nicht unbedingt als einen Fortschritt an. Doch erwies sich diese zunächst umstrittene Hybrid-Schrift nicht nur als sehr gut lesbar, sondern auch als ausgesprochen erfolgreich. Sämtliche Stile der Rotis sind deutlich am großen ¿C" sowie dem kleinen ¿c" und ¿e" zu erkennen: Während sie oben eine stark gerundete Hakenform aufweisen, ist der untere Teil schlicht (und serifenlos) und verläuft flacher. Otl Aicher (1922-1991) war Dozent für visuelle Kommunikation, Architekt, Schrift- und Produktgestalter. Er benannte die Rotis nach seinem Wohnort in Süddeutschland. Die Rotis® ist universell einsetzbar: Bücher, Dokumentation, Geschäftsberichte und -korrespondenz, Zeitschriften, Zeitungen, Plakate, Werbung, Multimedia und Corporate Design.
