Roger Excoffon – born 7. 9. 1910 in Marseille, France, died 1983 in Paris, France – graphic designer, typographer, type designer. Studies law at the University of Aix-en-Provence. Studied painting in Paris, works as a graphic designer. 1947: opens his studio. Co-founder of the U + O (Urbi et Orbi) advertising agency in Paris. Die Antique Olive ist das Werk des renommierten französischen Typografen Roger Excoffon. 1960 macht er den Anfang mit der Antique Olive Nord und der Nord Italic, welche sich wegen ihrer Schwärze vortrefflich für Reklame, Schilder und Plakate eignen. Später, 1963, kamen die Schriftschnitte Bold und Compact hinzu, und 1965 die Black. 1968 folgte die Bold Condensed und 1969 schließlich die Roman und die dazu passende Italic.
Die Antique Olive zeichnet sich durch eine hohe Mittellänge und offene Buchstabenformen aus. Sie ist sehr gut lesbar, auch in kleineren Schriftgraden.
