Colin Brignall – born 1940 in Warwickshire, England – photographer, type designer, art director. Started work as photographer for the fashion trade, the press and industry. 1964: joins the Letraset Type Studio as photographic technician. Since 1974: type designer for Letraset International. The British designer Freda Sack (born 1951) created the following fonts: Ignatius™ (1987), Jenson Old Style™ bold condensed (with Colin Brignall, 1982), Orlando™ (1986), Paddington™ (1977), Proteus™ (1983), Vermont™ (1987), Victorian™ (with Colin Brignall, 1976).

In the second half of the 19th century there was a cold, ugly academic tendency making itself evident in all areas of design. It manifested itself in the incompetent repetition of earlier styles and considered that enough. But then young artists all over Europe started to break out of this torpidity and create something completely new. Die Victorian ist eine Gemeinschaftsarbeit von Freda Sack und Colin Brignall. Ihre Inspiration bezogen diese beiden Schriftschöpfer aus den Schmuckschriften des 19. Jahrhunderts, deren reich verzierter Stil hier aufs Schönste nachempfunden wird und den Kunstgeschmack der viktorianischen Zeit neu aufleben lässt.

Die Victorian Inline Shaded wurde von Nick Belshaw entworfen. Auch er ließ sich von den Schmuckformen des 19. Jahrhunderts anregen. Die Victorian Inline Shaded reflektiert den Kunststil der spätviktorianischen Ära.
