Die Linotype Indus gehört zu den Schriften der Take Type Library. Diese wurden aus der Fülle der Einsendungen der 1994 und 1997 von Linotype ausgeschriebenen Wettbewerbe International Digital Type Design Contest ausgewählt. Der Inder P. H. Hashin gestaltete die Schrift Indus, die in einem Schriftschnitt vorliegt. Seine Inspiration führt weit in die Vergangenheit auf alte indische Grabinschriften zurück. Daraus erklärbar ist die in vielen Zeichen des Alphabets wiederzufindende Formgebung, die uns an Ruhnenzeichen in der Bretagne oder in Irland erinnern. Die Grundformen der Groß- und Kleinbuchstaben könnnen als zueinander sehr ähnlich bezeichnet werden. Somit entsteht im Textbild eine unverwechselbare Ästhetik, von der Anwendung in mittleren Schriftgraden bis hin zu Headlines. Mit ihrem eigenständigen Charakter ist die Linotype Indus idealerweise mit serifenlosen Schriften und serifenbetonten Schriften kombinierbar.
