Dutch designer Paul van der Laan created the font Linotype Rezident™ in 1999. Flyers, Intros from James Bond films and PlayStation games as well as the typeface Senator from Zuzane Licko inspired Paul van der Laan to create Linotype Rezident. Development of Linotype Rezident:

Flyer, Intros von James Bond Filmen und Playstationspiele, aber auch Zuzane Lickos Schrift Senator inspirierten den Niederländer Paul van der Laan zur Gestaltung seiner Schrift Linotype Rezident. Über ihre Entstehung berichtet er: "Ich designte eine Visitenkarte für einen Freund und hatte eine ganz bestimmte Vorstellung über die Typographie im Kopf. So machte ich Skizzen - teilweise direkt am Bildschirm. Ich begann damit zu experimentieren die Schrift direkt am Computer zu konstruieren." Es entstand die Linotype Rezident mit ihrer kühl-technischen, streng konstruierten Ausstrahlung, die den Betrachter sofort an Computer und virtuelle Realitäten denken läßt. Den Namen für seine Schrift entlehnte Paul van der Laan einerseits dem Spiel Resident Evil. Andererseits verweist der Name auch auf die Stadt "The Hague" in der er wohnt und seine Ausbildung genoß. Denn oft wird sie "de residentie" genannt, weil die Queen und das Parlament dort ihren Sitz haben.
