Founded in St. Louis in 1894 by the sons of the owners of the Central Type Foundry, the Inland Type Foundry was the first company to introduce a standard baseline, an idea that would later be adopted the world over. In 1911, the company liquidated and the inventory was dived between American Type Founders and Barnhart Bros. & Spindler.
About Engravers™ #2 Bold ...
Designer: Robert Wiebking / Morris Fuller Benton, 1899, 1902
Engravers™ #2 Bold belongs to the Engravers™ #2 Font Family which is part of the Assorted Collection.
Engravers #2 is a typeface based on styles of engraved lettering that were popular at the end of the nineteenth century in America and abroad. In 1899, Robert Wiebking (who worked for a number of foundries in his time) designed an all-caps typeface named Engravers Roman.
American Type Founders, Inc. (ATF) released another successful ancestor of this design in 1902: Engravers Bold, designed by Morris Fuller Benton. Engravers Bold was also released by the Barnhart Brothes & Spinder foundry.
Today, Linotype's Engravers #2 brings turn-of-the-century elegance directly to your keyboard. Use the Engravers #2 typeface on any formal piece -- from table cards, to menus, invitations, or advertising work.
Engravers #2 is similar to Copperplate Gothic, Sackers Gothic and Nicolas Cochin.
