Font Designer – Maurizio Osti

Maurizio Osti, artist, teacher, graphic and web designer, was born in Sasso Marconi, a small town outside Bologna, Italy, famous as the country place where the Nobel prize winner Guglielmo Marconi made his experiments and launched the first wireless message. He lives and works in Bologna. As an artist, he has participated in many national and international exhibitions. Since 1978 Osti has taught courses in special Graphic Techniques and recently also the course of Progettazione Grafica, at the Accademia di Belle Arti, the very institute where Morandi once worked. He is an Art Director and designer of several websites such as the Normeinrete, Università di Padova, Baby nel Cuore, published by Happy Books in Web Design in Italy. In 2009 he won the Premio Marconi for Multimedia Art. For Osti, the typeface is the voice of text. Designing type is like giving an individual voice to the printed text. Paraphrasing John Ruskin, to draw clearly is poetry, prophecy and religion all in one.
