About Makina font family

We have designed the new "Makina" font from a selection of typefaces printed by about twenty different typewriters produced between 1898 and 1969. They originate from the USA, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and France. They all have their own styles and designs that we scrutinized, classified, mixed and rmonized. The Pica and Elite characters were typed on paper, scanned and redesigned. Two creations followed this research, a rough version with typing defects, and another version, completely redesigned and smooth, and therefore flawless. In all those typewriters there were no itilicized letterforms except on the "Mignon" from Germany and the "Typo" from France produced between 1905 and 1920 and on which the keyboards and letters could be swopped. Therefore we designed an itilicized version inspired from both. The produced version of "Makina" proves its excellent legibility and a perfect reading on computer screens. Furthermore, the "Makina Original" provides the genuine characters of the listed typewriters.
