Walter Baum – born 23. 5. 1921 in Gummersbach, Germany, died 8. 3. 2007 – type designer, graphic artist, teacher.

1935–39: trains at a typesetter. 1946–48: studies at the Meisterschule für das gestaltende Handwerk, Offenbach. 1949–72: director of the Bauersche Gießerei’s graphics studio in Frankfurt am Main. 1972–86: director of the Kunstschule Westend in Frankfurt am Main.

Fonts: Volta® (1956), Folio® (1956–63), Verdi (1957), Impressum® (1963), numerous fonts together with Konrad F. Bauer for the Bauersche Gießerei, Frankfurt am Main.
