Opal and Snoogle

Two new Linotype families:

Opal and Snoogle

The following pages illustrate two great new Linotype families: Opal™ and Snoogle™. Opal was designed by Hannes von Döhren. Hannes collaborated with Raimo Böse on the Snoogle project. Both Hannes and Raimo are young, Berlin-based designers. We hope that you enjoy their work!

In addition to designing these typefaces, they created the illustrations in this feature as well.

Opal: An elegant serif addition

Opal font family
The Opal type family is available with four basic fonts: Regular, Italic, Bold, and Script. Each font includes ligatures. The Regular, Italic, and Bold also include small caps. The Italic and Script fonts include alternates (swash letters). Additionally, each font in the Opal family includes an array of border elements and ornaments.

Through undulating strokes and sharp corners, a cutout feeling is created; Opal’s letters sport inktraps at stroke junctions, which this strengthen this image in larger point sizes even further. In total, the letterforms have clear emphasis on their verticals and horizontals; they do not fear the weight on their curves.

In addition to the Italic and Bold variants, the Opal family includes a unique Script component. Opal Script is well suited for adding more importance to a specific text passage, or for use as an alternative to the standard Italic.
