Font Designer – F. H. Schneidler

F. H. Schneidler – born 14. 2. 1882 in Berlin, Germany, died 6. 1. 1956 in Gundelfingen, Germany – typographer, calligrapher, type designer, illustrator, painter, teacher.

1902–03: studies architecture at the Technische Hochschule in Berlin-Charlottenburg. 1904–05: studies at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Düsseldorf under Peter Behrens and F. H. Ehmcke. 1905–06: teaches at the Fachschule in Solingen. 1907–20: professor and head of the Graphische Fachschule at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Barmen. 1912: starts designing books for Eugen Diederichs publishing house in Jena. 1920: takes up a teaching post at the Württembergische Kunstgewerbeschule in Stuttgart. 1921–25: founds and runs the Juniperus-Presse at the academy in Stuttgart. 1925: starts working on "Der Wassermann", a collection of study sheets for bookmakers, published in an edition of 70. The 700 pages include covers, headings, ornaments and logos etc. 1952: made an honory member of the Staatliche Akademie der Künste in Stuttgart. 1953: his life’s work is exhibited in New York and in 1957 in Stuttgart. Schneidler’s efforts in typography and teaching contributed to what is often called the "Stuttgart school of typography". He trained numerous typographers, including Eva Aschoff, Walter Brudi, Carl Kreidel, Imre Reiner and Rudo Spemann.
