Robert Hunter Middleton
Robert Hunter Middleton – born 6. 5. 1898 in Glasgow, Scotland, died 3. 8. 1985 in Chicago, USA – type designer, printer.

1908: moves to the USA. Studies painting at the Art Institute of Chicago. From 1923 onwards: type designer for the Ludlow Typograph Company. Works with Ernst F. Detterer and starts producing new weights and versions of Detterer’s Eusebius typeface in 1923. 1933–71: art director of the Ludlow Typograph Company. 1944: founds the Cherryburn Press.

Fonts: Eusebius (1923–29), Ludlow Black (1924), Cameo (1927), Record Gothic (1927–60), Delphian Open (1928), Stellar (1929), Tempo (1930–42), Karnak (1931–42), Lafayette (1932), Maifair Italic (1932), Eden (1934), Mandate (1934), Umbra™ (1935), Coronet™ (1937), Stencil (1938), Radiant™ (1940), Samson (1940), Flair (1941), Admiral Script (1953), Florentine Italic (1956), Formal Script (1956), Wave (1962).

Publications include: Bruce Beck "Robert Hunter Middleton, the man and his letters. Eight essays on his life and career", Chicago 1985.
