Linotype Library presents new font collection – August 31, 2000

Bad Homburg, 31.August 2000.

Whether screen or interface design for new operating terminals, the design of a new CD-ROM game, or the creation of an Internet website – even when graphics and pictures explain a lot, type is the mediator of the word and often serves as the guide through the depths of cyberspace. For this reason, a group of young media designers has put together a versatile collection of typefaces which are particularly suited for usage in new media. The Linotype Media Selction™ is available on CD-ROM.

Categorized by typeface and purpose, a mature selection has emerged. The classical constructivist typeface Avenir™, by Adrian Frutiger, is for pure text display Its finely distributed weight grades make it especially good for different backgrounds in order to assure the best screen legibility. For blazing headlines, typefaces like Linotype Atomatic™, an automobile typeface from the 50s, or Neville Brody’s unusual Insignia are perfect.

Also, the calligraphy font Papyrus™ or the broad, yet narrowly set, script face Grace are perfect for cult design. The designers also considered special symbols in making their selection. Linotype Caciocavallo™ and Freak Cabinet™ both contain odd figurative representations of our lives and cyberspace. However, these are only excerpts from the complete list which contains as well PMN Caecilia™, Linotype Killer™, Jesper™, Nyfors™, Linotype Cethubala™ and Grafilone™.

The Media Selection™ is an unlocked CD ROM containing 125 fonts in PostScript and/or TrueType formats for Mac and Windows.Bonus font: Linotype Technical Pi.
