About Linotype Mano

Discreet individuality

In contrast to a true script font, Linotype Mano® is characterized by discreet individuality, excellent legibility, and a fairly broad range of applications. This is partly because its letterforms are based on individually written letters, not extracted from words that have been joined-together. That means Mano’s letters have no “tails,” which hint at a connecting-stroke to the following letter.

First sketches of the typeface Mano made with a felt-tip pen (1982). The idea of arching and rounding the strokes is already apparent.
