3 collections of calligraphic typefaces of yesterday for the typographer of today
Using the slogan "Type before Gutenberg" well-known calligraphers had been invited to design historical original handwritten fonts for modern typesetting.

3 collections are now available entitled "Type before Gutenberg" which contain fonts from different ages before Gutenberg.

The fonts from Type before Gutenberg 2:

Beneta™ regular, Beneta regular DFR, Beneta Ornaments
Karlgeorg Hoefer designed Beneta, inspired by the Littera beneventana, the script of the Benedictine scribes from the 10th to the 12th century. During this time, scribes began to use wider pens and set them at a 45 degree angle to the paper, which caused their scripts to have radical stroke contrasts. This script was mainly used for books and certificates but disappeared by the end of the 13th century. Beneta revives the characteristics of this historic script, changing a line of text into an almost ornamental space. Beneta should be used in middle to larger point sizes for shorter texts and headlines.
Beneta DFR contains the DFR layout (Deutsche Fraktur) which includes historic ligatures and a long s.

Carolina™ regular and Carolina regular DFR
This Carolingian typeface, designed by Gottfried Pott, is surprisingly modern and readable. Anywhere a ’Grotesque’ font may seem too poised and an ’Antiqua’ a bit seasoned, typographers will appreciate the possibilities offered by the elegant rhythm expressed in Carolina.
Carolina regular DFR contains the DFR layout (Deutsche Fraktur) which includes historic ligatures and a long s.

Clairvaux™ regular and Clairvaux regular DFR
This unique font from Herbert Maring, based on letters handwritten with a quill, distinguishes itself through good legibility and a form compatible with today´s technology. The lively pen character is certainly a refreshing contribution to modern typography.
Clairvaux regular DFR contains the DFR layout (Deutsche Fraktur) which includes historic ligatures and a long s.

San Marco™ regular and San Marco regular DFR
The forms of San Marco, designed by Karlgeorg Hoefer, are adapted to the reading requirements of our time. The energetic character of San Marco makes it ideal for extravagant typographical usage.
San Marco regular DFR contains the DFR layout (Deutsche Fraktur) which includes historic ligatures and a long s.
