Syntax® Next

Almost half a century has passed since Hans Eduard Meier drew the first pencil sketches in 1955 which would provide the basis for the forms and scope of today´s Syntax Next typeface family. Considering the technical developments which led from hot metal composition to digitization, the passage of time is a strong affirmation of the timelessness of the Syntax design. The five weights of Syntax Antiqua were the last hot metal types produced by the German type foundry Stempel AG. The cooperation between Hans Eduard Meier and Linotype began in 1995. Syntax Next was carefully designed by Hans Eduard Meier according to the original design and with none of the alterations which had been made to the hot-metal and photosetting types. New typefaces were added along the way and the typeface family including Syntax Next, Linotype Syntax Letter, Linotype Syntax Serif and Linotype Syntax Lapidar is now as versatile as it is extensive. And it met with international acclaim: in 2000, the Type Directors Club of New York recognized Syntax Next as one of the most outstanding typefaces of our time.

Syntax Next
Type designer Hans Eduard Meier worked with Linotype to rework and further develop his Syntax, perfecting the legibility and design possibilities of this classic typeface. With six weights, their matching italics, as well as small caps and old style figures, this typeface family includes a total of 30 fonts, all including the Euro currency symbol.
Syntax Next is perfectly complemented by Linotype Syntax Letter and Linotype Syntax Serif (Linotype Syntax Letter and Linotype Syntax Serif are not part of the Platinum Collection).

Linotype Syntax Serif
Linotype Syntax Serif is the serif typeface which complements the new Linotype Syntax. With six weights, their matching italics, as well as small caps and old style figures, this typeface family includes a total of 30 fonts, all including the Euro currency symbol.
It combines harmoniously with the other Syntax typefaces, Linotype Syntax and Linotype Syntax Letter. Linotype Syntax Serif is ideal for longer texts in books and magazines.

Linotype Syntax Letter
Linotype Syntax Letter is reminiscent of the style of the Roman Rustic capitals and is a lively contrast to the other Linotype Syntax typefaces. Linotype Syntax Letter was designed especially for office communications and its forms are perfectly complemented by those of Syntax Next and Linotype Syntax Serif. With six weights, their matching italics, as well as small caps and old style figures, this typeface family includes a total of 24 fonts, all including the Euro currency symbol.

Linotype Syntax Letter Lapidar
As an extra bonus, the Linotype Syntax Letter CD includes ten fonts of Linotype Syntax Lapidar, whose unique contours are like those of the chiseled letter forms of the ancient Greeks (Linotype Syntax Letter Lapidar is not part of the Platinum Collection).

Syntax® Next (formerly Linotype Syntax), along with Avenir® Next, Compatil®, Eurostile® Next, Optima® nova, Sabon® Next, Univers® Next (formerly Linotype Univers), Frutiger® Next and Palatino® nova belongs to the typefaces of the Linotype Platinum Collection.
These fonts were carefully digitized and have the high quality demanded by professional typography. All fonts of the Platinum Collection were produced according to the Linotype tradition of quality.
Linotype and its authorized partners offer these fonts as Platinum Collections CDs or as single fonts or value packs.
