The contemporary New York letter and type designer Tony Stan was born 1917 and died 1988. He created the following fonts: ITC American Typewriter® (1974, with Joel Kaden), ITC Garamond® (1977), ITC Cheltenham® (1978), ITC Century® (1980), ITC Berkeley Old Style® (1983).
ITC American Typewriter, ITC Garamond, ITC Cheltenham, ITC Century and ITC Berkely Old Style are included in the Linotype Library.
In 1894, Linn Boyd Benton finished a commission for a new text typeface with the American periodical Century Magazine. Century is typical of the neo-renaissance movement in typography at the end of the 19th century. Morris Fuller Benton drew a number of versions and extensions of Century for the American Typefounders Company, and Century was later taken up by the firms Linotype, Intertype and Monotype. Century is an extremely legible design suitable for almost any text.
ITC Century is a trademark of International Typeface Corporation registered in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and which may be registered in certain other jurisdictions.
