Type Gallery – Conrad

Font Designer: Akira Kobayashi, 2000
Winner typeface from Linotypes 3. Type Design Contest (1. price text category) and from the Type Directors Club Type Design Competition 2001.
The text typeface Conrad® was created by Japanese type designer Akira Kobayashi. Its letters are strong and organic with small, well-placed irregularities which keep it lively. Kobayashi took his inspiration from a print typeface of the 15th century created by two German printers named Konrad Sweynheim and Arnold Pannartz. The forms of the "a" and a number of other letters are based on those of the typeface of Sweynheim and Pannartz, however, the typeface does not limit itself and breathes new life into its historical ancestor. Conrad is lively and strangely modern, when one considers its model. Kobayashi says about his typeface, "I would imagine that Conrad is the first revival of one of the old print typefaces of Sweynheym and Pannartz which remains true to the model and still manages to differ in so many aspects."
Let the outstanding quality of this typeface convince you.
