The New Linotype Syntax

You can’t get rid of them: the typeface classics which date back to the time of hot-metal setting. The advantage in using these classics is their visual trustworthiness, which comes from their long history. Unfortunately, these typefaces also have different disadvantages. They are often poorly built-up: bold weights, small capitals, and other elements are often missing. In addition, the transfer from hot-metal and photo typesetting into digital technology – often completed under time-pressure – was not always very successful. Therefore, Linotype has already revived several classics completely, such as Univers® and Frutiger®. Now the much-loved Syntax® shows off its new clothes.
