Nicolaus Jenson – born 1420 in Sommevoire, France, died 1480 in Venice, Italy – type founder, punch cutter, printer, publisher.
It is thought Jenson was punch cutter (master of the mint) for the royal mint in Tours or Paris. 1458: Carl VII sends Jenson to Mainz to learn the technique of movable metal type and bring it back to Paris. The designer Ronald Arnholm (born 4. 1. 1939 in Barre, Vermont) created ITC Legacy® in 1992. He was first inspired to create the typeface when he was a graduate student at Yale. In a type history class, he was impressed by a copy of the 1470 edition of Eusebius, set in the roman type of Nicolas Jenson.
